RSCA Futsal couldn't qualify for the Champions League Final Four. Despite having played well during the elite round and delivering a great performance against Sporting CP, one of the competition's favourites, the Mauve & Blanc are out of the competition.
Our elite round campaign began with two convincing wins over Haladás (5-2) and Loznica-Grad (1-8). A huge challenge awaited our players against Sporting CP on Sunday evening. Only one of the two teams could secure their ticket for the Final Four.
We had to compete without Diego Roncaglio (suspended) and Cristiano Marques (injured), our two main goalkeepers. 18-year-old Tom Cardoen who took place between the sticks.
In a nearly full Pavilhão João Rocha (3,000 seats), RSCA Futsal put up a good fight and kept the Portuguese on their toes for a long time. This was translated into the scoreline at half-time: 2-1 to Sporting CP.
The second half was more challenging for Luca Cragnaz's players, who had to open up and conceded two more goals. The final score: 4-1 to Sporting CP, who qualifies for the Final Four.
The focus is now on the league and the Belgian Cup for the Mauve & Blanc, who can still clinch a domestic double. RSCA Futsal are also still unbeaten in the Belgian Futsal League.
